The Challenge

Modern development requires juggling multiple terminal tabs: background servers, database watchers, Docker logs, and AI coding assistants. Standard terminal emulators turn into an unorganized sea of tabs with lost context and dead processes.

Architecture & Solution

Created Foundry as a workspace organizer that clusters terminal sessions and processes by project context, keeping active commands, logs, and coding agents visually structured and persistent.

Engineering Decisions

  • Non-Intrusive Workflow ArchitectureDesigned to sit alongside existing developer IDEs and shells rather than forcing proprietary terminal replacements.
  • Bespoke Engineering Design SystemConstructed a high-contrast dark palette (charcoal, forge orange, hot metal gold) tuned for prolonged command-line readability.

Outcomes

  • Streamlines context-switching across multi-service monorepos and local microservices
  • Provides persistent workspace states across system reboots
